History behind Christmas Bells
Christmas Bells have a very
bright history of its own. It is nowhere related to the history of Christmas
but still Christmas Bells have graceful importance in the celebration of
Christmas. The celebration of Christmas is incomplete without Christmas Bells. In
very far history people of Pagan religion believed that the sound of bell
scares the evil spirit and as per the records Bells were used as a safety
weapon by people against evil spirits. Bells were used in Pagan winter festival
to scare evils. As there were not many resources in the past, big weapons could
not be made. But it was easy to make bells as they are dam easy. So peoples
used to make bells or get it made from others. And they are affordable too.
In the next era when people
started harvesting and hunting, in the
winter days there were no facilities of lights people were very much afraid of
evils. So they used bells in the activities of keeping bad things or evils away
from them so that they can live peacefully. This is an imaginary belief that
people had in that time.
As the time passed and people
used new things and so bells were used for many different purposes. For
example, bells were used at the time of announcing emergency, at the time of
gathering people, at the time of good as well as bad events. It is believed
that the sound of bells brings in positivity and eradicates negativity from the
environment. In Buddhism Bells are considered as a symbol of harmony
Since historical period there
were bells in mainly many churches in all the villages. These ancient roots
brought Bells into the celebration of Christmas as it is used in announcing the
starting of festival and gathering people for Christmas celebration. The
tradition of using Bells in celebration of Christmas started for the
announcement of the birth of Jesus Christ at the Christmas festival. One of the properties of a Church Bell is that
they are around five meters in diameter. Since ancient times bells are used to
be rang at the time of singing carols to give fine tunes as the sound of bell
is very melodious. Kids used the bell as a means of musical instrument.
To evidence the historical
importance of Christmas Bells there is a very ancient saying that “Every time a
Bell rings, an
angel gets his wings”. In ancient times it was believed that whenever bell is
rung the angel is given wing by God.
